Have searched for USB in the forum, found a post in French which I could follow but which did not give the result for which I hoped. Can members help me to complete the picture of what I need to do to use XnView to show a .sld slideshow on a Windows (XP or Vista) computer where I can not install XnView.
The post mentioned extacting the zip file to the USB stick, which I have done.
On the USB stick are two folders: XnView which contains the extracted zip file which I downloaded this evening from the XnView website. It also contains a folder with all the pictures to be shown in the slideshow. Third there is a .sld file which contains my preferences for the slideshow following order and so.
What happens? If I use 'Computer' to go to the USB stick and click on xnview.exe it starts fine. I can then open the .sld file and edit the show and make sure it is saved on the USB stick. If I click on the .sld file it will start the slideshow on my own computer, which has XnView installed, but it will not start XnView when inserted into a computer which does not have XnView installed.
The error window states that it can not find files, even though they are where they were on the USB stick when I composed the .sld file. Could it be that the other computer calls the USB stick drive E: and my computer calls it D: If so, how can I get XnView to look in the folder 'next' to it?
And when I click on the .sld file Windows asks which program to use - is there a way to avoid the need to speciffy which program to use?
Some settings in Options: System Integration: Save options as INI in folder 'user' and Folder used for other files 'user' - what does 'user' mean? 'My' folder on the C: drive? that would not be useful, as it needs to be on the USB stick. Would 'XnView' mean the folder on the USB stick or the XnView folder on the hard disk - keeping in mind that I have navigated to the XnView folder on the USB stick before clickin xnview.exe into action?
Apologies for the long post, but often it helps to say more than just the bare minimum.
In the hope that members can shine some light on one or more of my questions, I wish you all a good night for now.

Right, it's a matter of absolute vs. relative paths:neher wrote:The error window states that it can not find files, even though they are where they were on the USB stick when I composed the .sld file. Change the slide show options as required. The slide show should run independently of any paths and drives, therefore check the Save Relative Paths in SLD file check box.
