Setting up Xnview - Categories and keywords

Hi, I am looking for some clear detailed instructions on the best way to set up categories (with perhaps parents and children) and keywords in XnView. I have only found multiple posts regarding bugs related to categories which is kind of putting me off from helping to install this program for a non-profit organization Are categories dependent on keywords? Should keywords be added before categories? Can a keyword list be imported into Xnview and then edited in Xnview afterwards? I would really appreciate some clear instructions. Also, are all up-to-date versions of Xnview, Xnview MP?

Categories are saved in database of XnView, keywords are used by IPTC metadata

I have just downloaded the basic version of Xnview and the categories work find but the star ratings doesn't function at all. I then downloaded XnViewmp (French) and as soon as I started testing the categories function the program crashed repeatedly. I have now spent 3 hours (at a friend's house with a PC) testing these programs and do not feel safe installing & teaching this program this for my non-profit. I only have MAC at home, does the xnvewmp work as well on a Mac? I know that the classic Xnview is useless on a Mac. Can you give some advice on how to install a stable version please?

XnView: Star rating doesn't work?? File have no rating?
XnViewMP: How do you have a crash? (you can try the 0.72, currently i have a bug in 0.75)

Ratings didn't work at all in the basic XnView. I'm now at home on a Mac and dowloading the Mac MP version, how similar is to the PC MP version?

Thank you for your suggestions. How can I find the Category sets? I cannot see this at all, all the categories I have entered seem to function as keywords. I would appreciate a quick reply as I need to understand this fully by tomorrow.

I have been reading the information on Cataloging Features and find that the instructions are not clear enough for me. I cannot see where to access Cataloging Sets at all I am not a web expert. It's very irritating that I cannot attach screen shots to explain my problem

In 'groupe de categories' I have Attribué/Historique or Suggérés. Even though I have already added some categories, in this pane, everything is empty, why? Can you explain the saving / archiving process? How should cataloguing information be saved and backed up to XnView?
In 'gestion de categories' I only have 'auto correction..', Importer fichier catégories, Exporter fichier catégories or Effacer tout..

Have you made any good videos to show people how to set up XnViewMP or is it trial and error all the way? If I cannot see a way to understand and therefore teach others how to set up this programme, I am wandering whether we should abandon the whole idea of using it, it seems to be much too complicated and lacking in clear instructions on setting up. Maybe you need to be a developer to set this program up?

I wish I could be of more help, …

Categories (you can toggle the focus on it with F9 - did you knew that? - have the Categories panel on display and press F9 to see how the focus switch form Thumbs pane to it and back) and Category Sets.

… but unfortunately I'm not very experienced when it comes to working with categories

Suggested are based on your previous added categories, so at startup it will be empty
History are the last used categories...

When I click on + on Catalogue sets, I get a new layout, where is the logic here? How do you create new catalogue sets?

Can you explain the back up principle with XnView, (I know how to back up normal files).

Just managed to open some catalogue sets (I am still trying to test this program) see enclosed screen shot,

but, when I open a photo, I cannot see where to add the photo to the catalogue set. see second photo.
