Thumbnails are not updating rotation
jpg rotation works super fast and well, however thumbnails remain in the wrong orientation, which makes looking through lots of thumbnails tedious.
Win 11 and xnviewmp 1.9.5
See screenshot of thumbnail after rotation: preview is great, thumbnail still upside down. Have rebuilt dbase of thumbnails, no resolve.
Thanks much.

Re: Thumbnails are not updating rotation
I rotate different ways. Usually select one or more images and click the left or right rotate button on the menu bar.
In the settings>browser>misc dialog, I have exif deselected, and lossless selected.
I also don't know how to get thumbnails that now show the wrong orientation back to normal (after the actual image has been rotated appropriately).

Re: Thumbnails are not updating rotation
Yes, nothing happens when creating thumbnail via Exif only.
Not sure what you mean by "rebuild on this file".
I can't replicate the problem at will, however I have many thumbnails now who's rotation is out of sync with the rotated images. A bit frustrating.

Re: Thumbnails are not updating rotation
Might anybody have an idea how to fix these unrotated thumbnails? I've done database maintenance and rebuilt all the thumbnails, but no change...

Re: Thumbnails are not updating rotation
I've had a similar problem. After rotating a JPG images within a thumbnail, it updates, but it doesn't seem to work when I switch to full screen. I have to move to another image within the thumbnail, press F5, and then switch to full screen to see the rotated JPG image.

Re: Thumbnails are not updating rotation
In my case, doing this doesn't change anything. I cannot, for the life of me, get those mis-rotated thumbnails to display properly. Here's how this still looks

Re: Thumbnails are not updating rotation
Decided to remove xnview MP (only had zipped install), and put in xnview classic: same problem presists!
See attachment.
Other image viewers, eg Faststone, don't have the issue.
How can I fix this?

Re: Thumbnails are not updating rotation
Can anybody suggest any solution to this annoying problem?
I've removed xnview completely, installed the updated version 1.98, and the same problem! I do NOT have this problem in other image programs. So weird.
Thanks!

Re: Thumbnails are not updating rotation
file has embedded thumbnail that is upside down, and EXIF orientation tags = 1 (Normal, 0° rotation) for both: image (IFD0) and thumbnail (IFD1)
so app has no reason to autorotate anything
you have to fix your files manually
1. select file(s)
2. fix embedded thumbnail

1. select file(s)

- rotate
- press 'EXIF thumbnails - Rotate 90 left' (OR right) few times in Metadata > EXIF Thumbnail
OR
- rebuild
- press 'EXIF thumbnails - Rebuild' in Metadata > EXIF Thumbnail
OR
- delete
- press Clean.. and select 'EXIF thumbnail' in Metadata menu

Re: Thumbnails are not updating rotation
That's so awesome, thanks! The rebuild exif thumbnails worked! What a relief!
Do you have any idea how this gets messed up in the first place? I'd like to avoid this going forward!

it could be limited functionality/bug in camera software or an app if you edited your filesinsession wrote: Thu Dec 11, 2025 5:24 pm Do you have any idea how this gets messed up in the first place? I'd like to avoid this going forward!![]()
