Re: jpeg saved to black and white has a bigger file size??!!

Could you explain me this? :

I opened an jpeg image, did not make any change, just saved it to jpeg 50% quality. Result: 151ko

Then, I opened the same image, converted it to binary (no dither), and saved it to jpeg 50% quality. Result: 204Ko

Color quantization problems

This is half bug report/half enhancement request. From an old thread:
But with the -dither, all is ok, no?
Yes, but the output is... dithered !
I do not want dithering in the output images, I need plain colors.
Yes, right. There is a problem because when i quantize picture, i reduce bits per ...

NConvert/XnView plugins for 64-bit?

Hello! I'm currently using 64-bit nconvert to process images that are too huge for 32-bit to handle. Is there any possibility that you could compile the format plugins for 64-bit? I'm most interested in JBIG and JPEG-2000, if that helps (I realize for lurawave, the only way to get 64-bit would be a ...

I've asked before for xnview to just use the original file if it's on a gdiplus platform (xp, 2000, 2003, and vista can handle even more formats). Seems a complete waste to convert from one supported format to a much larger supported format. And yeah, converting unsupported formats to either a ...

You have to check the option to use full screen on the secondary monitor, in the full screen options. xnview doesn't check which monitor the browser is running on, only that option.

Are you guys talking about images that have broken alpha channels, or that xnview is incorrectly reading or applying existing alpha channels? I can't think of a single time you'd want to use a watermark with an alpha channel and not use it, so an option sounds like the wrong solution.... If xnview's ...

Just to clear up a technical misconception: There is no 4:1:1 in jpeg (though DV uses it), there's 4:4:4 (1x1), 4:2:0 (2x2), 4:2:2 (1x2), and there's no real name for 2x1's format.

Good jpeg decoders will upsample downsampled chroma so that it's not as obvious. (Good ones will also minimize ...

XnView has no unicode capability, unlike most software, so that's probably where the problem comes from. :(

My favorite skin. =D

Can you post a blank copy of the button so that I could make a couple of the missing icons? I'm tired of using random icons around my system for export, delete, etc.

Look up imageshack and photobucket, they're the two main image upload services, if you don't have an FTP available. You can also get Pierre's email from the main website.

Re: Some questions

Is there a shorter way to sharpen pics? Is the preview wrong?
Yes, the preview is generally useless, but you can use Apply to Image to see the real effect. As an aside - avoid the basic 'sharpen' in all software like the plague, it causes extremely ugly ringing (black and white edges around ...

Yes, development time should be wasted including a minor feature that other software does much better. How much point is there in using something less powerful than MS Paint?

This might be an ...

Xnview has always done very strange things with print screen when it's open, for me, though I never got around to reporting it. Oddly, I have the same card, though it occurred on a 9200-based laptop as well. (I get 1-bit monochrome output, not even 8-bit like you.) The only way you can get good ...
