I use WinNC
I use a program not yet mentioned: WinNC.net . It has tabs for my favourite folders, icons for my favourite programs, can filter within copy or move, synchronize, compare folders, compress/decompress files, show picture thumbs, show/play media files, and even burn CDs and DVDs.

1. If I select many pictures and edit the iptc data with "write all selected" I get no information when the process is finished. If I click too early on the cancel button I get the message that XnView is in process. I would suggest to show the hourglass cursor while operating.

most used keywords
I still use Exifer to seht the keywords because there I can save my favorites for every Exif and IPTC tag. It is made with drop down lists. Perhaps it could be also implemented in a similar way to XnView.
