JPEG Estimated Quality in Info panel 'Properties' gone? Histogram too?

Post by FaceCrap »

I'm not sure if this is by design, or something on my end. But since I think the last 2 or 3 updates, I no longer have an 'Estimated Quality' in the Info panel 'Properties' for JPG's.

The panel itself seems to have issues to. There used to be a Histogram panel which is now MIA.
If I right-click on the tab area of the panel, it's still listed on the context menu as item, but when I put a checkmark in front, the histogram stays gone...

Yes!

Makes no difference. Nothing happens when I toggle the checkmark.

Ok, Judging from your question. I'm gonna wipe it from the system and re-install.
Perhaps I left some traces behind the first time I tried.

Ok, system cleaned of all possible traces... re-installed.
Got the histogram tab back, but the panel stays empty all the time.
Estimated Quality for any and all jpg's still MIA...

There are no such issues with clean 1.7.1
try to delete xnview.ini

However, some strings may be omitted if they are too low / "incorrect", eg:
  • no XY DPI
xnview wrote: Mon Apr 15, 2024 12:11 pm right, at loading, if dpi is <= 2, it's not a good value for me
    browser_info_properties_dpi.png
  • no Dimension (your image on the right)
    browser_info_properties_dimension.png
I think values that "always exists" (eg Dimension, DPI) should not be omitted even if they are close to 0.

I did, and yes, both the Estimated Quality and the Histogram showed. But as soon as I started modifying the layout using the "Free" menu item, both disappeared again, not to be seen again until I delete XnView.ini again...

I give up...

if it were the only thing... but I I reported several versions back that I can't even watch MP4 files without it crashing after closing the viewer tab.
Plus the weird tab behavior in the browser when you rename files... and yes, I know it's a QT thing, but a workaround shouldn't be that difficult...

As requested.

Two zips, one where both EQ and Histogram are present:
And one where they went MIA after layout change:
XnView-Desired-Layout-Lost-EQ-and-Histogram.zip
(5.21 KiB) Downloaded 12 times
Name of the zip is indicative for the contained and literally named "XnView.ini" file with layout having/lost EQ and Histogram.
