Browser - filelist - Copy should not be default action

Post by user0 »

XnViewMP 1.4.3 64bit
Windows11 (22H2), display resolution 3840x2160, win scaling 150%

Browser - filelist

Issue
Copy is default action when selected file(s) drag over empty space (highlighted yellow).
It deviates from standart behaviour* and there shall be serious reason(s) for such.

* standard drag&drop behaviour:
- drag in the same folder - do nothing
- drag with CTRL - copy
- drag with SHIFT - move (do nothing if released in the same folder, see Related)

Suggestion
Copy action (while dragging) shall be available ONLY when CTRL is pressed.

It was like that since first version of Classic, and i think that it's better to have copy by default...

why?
Apart from legacy there is absolutely no point/benefits of breaking standard functionality here.
tbh, in my experience, it's more annoying than helpful.
pineappleeli wrote: Tue Sep 27, 2022 5:54 am Another issue is about the drag&drop copy function... is there any way to disable it? I don't think it needs to do quicker making a copy than copy&paste... and there is no undo. It's easily misoperated. the app crashed when I dragged a huge folder wrongly, and I felt lucky it crashed before the copy process starts (maybe it stopped and crashed because I pushed Esc immediately).
I hope there can be a way to disable this function, it really is UNNECESSARY :(
