Metadata - labels - add presets, add rating

Post by user0 »

XnViewMP 1.9.5
Windows11 (25H2), display resolution 3840x2160, dpi scale 150%

Metadata - custom labels
there are few inconveniences with custom metadata labels:

Suggestion
settings_metadata_add_presets_add_rating.png
  • in Settings > Metadata
    • add Presets functionality to Color labels and Rating tabs
when user switches language - force update <Default> preset
    • add Rating tab -- done in 1.11.4
      • rework existing

        Code: Select all

        [Browser]
        ratingLabel=Unrated, A, B, C, D, E
into standalone(global) group, eg like [ColorLabel], but adding Presets may require more changes
    • add 'Uncolored' label to Color labels tab -- done in 1.11.4

Needless to say, a big "+1" on my part, and I very much like the idea of presets; that would be a very nice touch!

Re: Metadata - labels - add presets, add rating: Done!

Too cool! I just noticed (1.11.5 but perhaps earlier) that this has been implemented!

I think we all need to be out there promoting "XnViewification" as the opposite of "enshittification:" something that keeps getting better and better over time.

Merci Pierre! C'est beau!

This is being worked on.

Pierre had an attempt at default Color Labels automatically being translated when the language setting was changed in a pre-1.4 build, but it had problems, and there wasn't time to fix it before release and so it was removed. He will have a new approach to this for a future release, so please just be patient.

Uncolored and unrated really need to be removed from "Special Items" now... and while we're there, everything else too

Now that Ratings labels can be customized (Tools > Settings > Metadata > Rating labels) and Color Labels (which have always been customizable) now have an "Uncolored" choice (Tools > Settings > Metadata > Color labels), it seems something close to vital now to heed User0's suggestion expressed here, concerning the "Special Items" category in the Catalog Filter.

Because people are going to change the labels, including the "No Rating" and "Uncolored" labels, the presence of these two latter in the "Special Items" node of the Catalog filter will become very problematic. They really need to be grouped with their brethren in the Rating and Color Label nodes respectively.

Using my case as an example, my Special Items node now has "Successful snapshot" in it. That makes no sense in the Special Items node, but it would make perfect sense if the no-star rating was grouped with the other star ratings in the "Rating" node, all of which have customized descriptions going up from "Successful snapshot."

Do let me know if this is being worked on already, and as always, thank you for your consideration.
