Viewing video files within XnView: Info for FAQ wanted

For a very loooong time I had the problem that video files were not displayed in XnView.

Then...
  • ... I've installed VLC for viewing video files. VLC does display the .mov videos taken with my digital camera. But I still couldn't view the videos within XnView.
  • ... as suggested in another topic, I have installed the K-Lite Code pack, but this did not help.
  • ... last not least I've installed Apple's QuickTime 7.0 and yes: I can see video files within XnView, now.
This XnView forum is full of topics dealing with videos that are not displayed. A clear indicator, that a FAQ is needed.

@XnTriq:
Could you please post a list of related topics?

@All:
I'd like to gather infos for an FAQ that provide people all the info that is needed for solving this problem and summarize it in an FAQ. What is needed for viewing videos? Is there such a thing as a step-by-step check? Installation of VLC did not help in my case, why didn't it help? Installation of additional Codecs did not help me, either (I assume K-Lite has no Codecs for "mov").

Any helpful and informative input is appreciated.

Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (latest dev builds)

I also recommend using MadVR video render (http://forum.doom9.org/ under Software group) even though my Intel HD Graphics is slow with it.

Bonjour,

Sorry, helmut! I had missed your request, because I'm behind in reading threads :|

Thank you very much for the huge list of links, XnTriq! :-) Looks like viewing videos is a real problem. But looks like there isn't something like a clear solution.
